  About Us

I think it’s important to realize that the basic reason why so many people love sports is the unpredictability of the outcomes of the games themselves.  Sports are real life drama played out on fields and courts.  It is this drama that got me so interested in sports at a very young age and it is this same drama that can attract many other people to the beauty of sports.  Along with understanding the drama that surrounds so many sporting events there are more basic things, that if understood and appreciated, can help more people grow to love sports.  These things will be focused on during the relevant part of the sports calendar.  For example, I will not be focusing on basketball during football season and vice versa.

I have had so many wonderful memories and experiences from playing and watching sports that I feel compelled to share my knowledge so that many more people can experience the same kind of feelings.  It is with that goal in mind that I embarking on a website designed to put sports in a more positive light for many people that previously didn’t love or care about sports.  I truly believe that by adding at least a basic knowledge and appreciation of sports someone can really show another level of affection for a significant other by showing an active interest in something
they care about.

This time of year is in my opinion and in the opinion of many others the best time of year for sports.  Baseball is coming down to its final weeks of its regular season and then heading into the very dramatic playoffs in October.  Both college and pro football are getting underway.  Football is a whole different mind set for big sports fans, this is very important to understand.  There are two main reasons for this, the first one is the fact that there really aren’t that many games and a fan’s favorite team only plays once a week.  The second reason is the very nature of football itself.  The true nature of football is that it is a very intense and physically rough game, but at the same time shows tremendous athleticism and drama.  It is these two reasons that create that big game feeling for every game for most football fans.  Just as a point of comparison, there are 162 regular season baseball games played by each team and in the NFL there are only 16 regular season games for each team.  College football teams only play 12 regular season games.  I am a huge baseball and football fan, but it isn’t nearly as big a deal for me to miss several of 162 baseball games, but it is a lot bigger deal to miss even one of 16 football games.  This difference is important to understand when a loved one was very laid back about missing some baseball games during the summer, but when September rolls around their interest in watching football seems a lot stronger than when compared to watching baseball.  I have witnessed this and been a part of this phenomenon for many years.  Many sports bars are packed on Sunday afternoons for regular season football games, but the same cannot be said for most regular season baseball games.  The reason for this isn’t so much about football being more popular, but is really a product of the fact that there aren’t nearly as many opportunities for a fan to watch his football team play when compared to his baseball team.  It may seem silly for adults to wear clothing of their favorite football team to a bar on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, but this team they are following have for the most part been a huge part of their lives since they were kids.  I can speak about this because this is the way that I am.  From personal experience I have had many wonderful memories of watching games with my Dad as a kid and this is a very hard thing to give up when becoming an adult.   More than the games themselves, this was for me and still is a terrific way to spend time sharing a common interest with my wonderful Dad.

Now when baseball reaches its playoffs in October the importance of each game is increased exponentially.  No sport changes as much from the regular season to the playoffs more than baseball.  For six months a baseball fan could take comfort in the fact that there will be another game tomorrow after a tough loss, but if a fan is fortunate enough to have their team in the playoffs that mindset makes a 180 degree turn.  A team can play great all through the summer and make the playoffs, but that can be erased very quickly in a short playoff series.  A first place team can put their whole season in jeopardy by losing the first game of the first round of the playoffs.  For a big baseball fan this can be rather stressful.  This is also an important thing to understand because it may not make sense that someone was so relaxed about their baseball team for six months, but all of a sudden each game is a must see and it may appear that their stress level has increased.  Since the word stress has appeared it is only used in the context of sports related stress.  There are obviously vastly more important stresses in life than stress related to sports.  In perhaps in an odd way it is this sports related stress that actually increases the enjoyment of the games.  The drama that can be played out during a baseball playoff game is very different than in almost every other sport. A big moment in a baseball playoff game can last a lot longer than in football.

The most important reason why a big moment in baseball can last longer than in any other sport is the fact that there is no game clock in baseball.  This simple fact can lead to a dramatic baseball moment lasting far longer than in other sports.  The strategy and drama involved in a big baseball moment can be very exciting and unpredictable.  This is a huge reason why baseball holds a special place in the hearts of sports fans.  Some people think baseball is slow and boring, but when understood baseball can be looked at as a very exciting and interesting game.

I hope the information given here can start to bring an insight into why sports, specifically football and baseball in this case, are so compelling and interesting to many people.  As Sports Made Easy progresses I will continue to provide similar insight into why sports can help to bring people closer together in their relationships.  Over the years I have heard many negative things said about someone watching sports too much, but I wholeheartedly feel that this perceived negative can be turned into a positive for a relationship by bringing insight into why sports and specific sports teams are so important to many people.
